State Grid recently released the 2019 White Paper on the ubiquitous power Internet of Things, which shows that State Grid will establish a preliminary ubiquitous Internet of Things within 2 years.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is the "Internet connected by everything". It is an extended and expanded network based on the Internet. It combines various information sensing devices with the Internet to form a huge network, realizing the interconnection of people, machines and things at any time and anywhere.

The ultimate goal of State Grid's ubiquitous Internet of Things is to achieve the interconnection of all aspects of the power system. According to the introduction of relevant staff of State Grid, ubiquitous Internet of Things is to apply digital technology to traditional power grids, improve the perception ability and operational efficiency of the power grid, and make it a more comprehensive platform.
It is understood that State Grid has attempted to apply technologies such as mobile internet and artificial intelligence in some regions and power sectors to make the power grid smarter.
For example, in Tianjin, State Grid of China has established a comprehensive energy service system, achieving effective integration of energy supply and demand data and intelligent control of various energy consuming equipment. Some demonstration projects comprehensively utilize energy sources such as wind, light, and geothermal, significantly improving efficiency and effectively reducing the average energy consumption per unit output value.
In addition, in Jiangsu, the perception ability of the power grid has been improved through digital transformation. For example, after a power outage, it can automatically identify faults and proactively repair them before users call the repair hotline; Concentrate the dispersed interruptible loads of enterprises and residents, accurately and in real-time control, and immediately cut off some loads in case of emergency accidents in the power grid.
In Beijing, Shanghai, and other places, State Grid Electric Vehicle Company has piloted the implementation of orderly charging of electric vehicles. Information exchange and hierarchical control are carried out between the distribution network, users, charging piles, and electric vehicles to dynamically adjust charging time and power, meeting user charging needs while improving equipment utilization.
State Grid Corporation of China stated that it will ultimately establish the ubiquitous power Internet of Things by 2024.
