China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) recently announced two exciting achievements. One is the exploration of a billion ton oil field in the Ordos Basin this year, the Qingcheng Oilfield. The other is the significant progress made in shale gas exploration in the Sichuan Basin, with a total of 1061.03 billion cubic meters discovered, forming a shale gas atmosphere.

At the beginning of the last century, our country was in a situation of being invaded by foreign powers. Several countries, including Japan and the United Kingdom, had surveyed oil fields on Chinese land with the intention of occupying them. However, to the disappointment of those experts, the vast land of China did not have oil fields. When the exploration teams of multiple countries failed, they came to the conclusion that China did not have oil fields.
Until 1959, after the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Chinese discovered the Daqing Oilfield in Heilongjiang, and at that time, the entire Chinese people could be said to be delighted and encouraged.

Because oil is the foundation, blood, and lifeline of all industries, a country without its own oil reserves would be extremely unsafe. Without oil, everything would have to rely on others. The discovery of the Daqing oilfield also shattered China's claim that there are no oil fields.

Before the liberation, Mobil Petroleum was dumping its products everywhere in China, and I don't know how much money it made Chinese people. However, at that time, we had no way because you didn't have oil yourself. So after the discovery of Daqing Oilfield in 1959, the people of the whole country were overjoyed. Li Siguang played a significant role in it. At that time, the whole world said that China did not have oil. Li Siguang firmly believed that there was, and eventually discovered the Daqing Oilfield.
With history ahead, the country has continuously increased its efforts in oil exploration, and has achieved initial results in unconventional exploration and development in oil reservoirs in basins such as Ordos, Junggar, Bohai Bay, Songliao, and Santanghu. Significant breakthroughs have also been made in the national shale gas demonstration areas of Changning Weiyuan and Zhaotong in the Sichuan Basin.

It is reported that since 2011, PetroChina has been conducting long-term technological research in the Ordos region. By 2019, it has added 358 million tons of proven oil geological reserves and 693 million tons of predicted geological reserves. Currently, it is constructing a million ton level development demonstration zone.
With more energy reserves, China will not be constrained by others in the future and can truly become independent and self reliant.
