In China's current mechanical manufacturing industry, the cable industry is the second largest manufacturing industry in terms of annual output value, second only to the automotive industry. Since 2012, China has long been the world's largest producer and consumer of cables. In recent years, China has not only led the world in terms of quantity, but also made continuous breakthroughs in key core technologies of online cables. Currently, almost all types of wire and cable products that large cable enterprises in developed countries can produce can be produced in China, and all of them have engineering applications. The brilliant development of China's cable industry over the past few decades cannot be separated from the help of IEC.

The national standard system in the field of wires and cables in China is based on the IEC international standards. Out of the 288 national standards managed by the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Wire and Cable (SAC/TC213) and the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Bare Wire (SAC/TC422), 140 of them adopt IEC international standards, accounting for 50% of the total number of national standards.

When formulating national standards, China referred to many IEC standards, which played an important basic technical support for the construction of the standard system and industrial development of China's cable industry.
