Henan Shenghua Cable has been established for many years, producing various types of cables such as high and low voltage cables, power cables, etc. It has very mature cable production experience. Taking the production of medium voltage power cables as an example, from copper rods to the production plant, storage, drawing, twisting, inner core storage to insulation extrusion, we analyze the effective control measures for copper oxidation in each step.
Firstly, the anti oxidation control of copper rods before and after entering the factory
Most cable factories in China purchase copper poles externally, and many manufacturers overlook the anti copper oxidation control of copper poles during transportation, especially in factories in the south where it is rainy and humid in summer. Therefore, it is even more important to pay attention during transportation and establish transportation specifications and standards with copper pole suppliers.
After entering the factory, copper rods must also undergo strict storage and management methods. Plastic cloth or film should be used to cover the copper rods and block their contact with humid air.
Anti oxidation control of copper rod drawing process
The wire drawing process needs to go through processes such as wire laying, wire drawing and annealing, cooling, drying, and winding. After the wire is drawn, it is sealed with transparent plastic film and stored in a dry environment for circulation. However, most cable companies skip the film wrapping process because they find it troublesome to wrap the copper wire with film. The surface temperature of a newly drawn coil conductor is higher than room temperature, and there is a potential risk of oxidation in the rainy season.

Copper wire twisting (bundle twisting) and chemical cross-linking extrusion process
At present, there is no online annealing or cooling device for the frame stranding machine, so the outer layer of copper conductors is prone to oxidation. Before stranding, choose a suitable stranding mold, compression wheel, and wire arranger, adjust the tension of wire collection and release. After the equipment adjustment is completed, the operator visually observes the surface smoothness of the upper copper wire and the center copper wire of the wire release frame to ensure that there are no obvious black spots, and then starts the machine.
The take-up point should ensure that the take-up reel is dry. After the reel is filled, it should be sealed with transparent plastic film, similar to copper wire drawing. Many cable companies omit this step. If this step causes copper conductor oxidation, the impact on low-voltage cables is still low, and for ultra-high voltage cables, the impact is unimaginable.

It can be seen that in maintaining the reducibility of copper, the most important thing is the details and methods. As long as strict control is carried out, staff strengthen their awareness, and ensure the good condition of equipment and normal environment, copper oxidation can be effectively prevented.
