On the morning of October 11th, the official report from Wuxi stated that a tens of meters long bridge deck overturning accident occurred at around 6 pm on October 10th, crossing the Shanghai direction K135 of National Highway 312 and Xigang Road, resulting in 3 deaths and 2 injuries. The rescue command center reported that when the elevated bridge deck overturned, there were a total of 5 vehicles on top, including 3 small cars and 2 trucks. Preliminary analysis shows that overloading of transportation vehicles led to the accident.
This incident has also become a hot topic on the internet. Although the cause of the accident was truck overload, many people are still concerned about the quality of infrastructure in Wuxi.

This concern is completely unnecessary. We should investigate the responsibility for the problematic project, and denying the quality of infrastructure in Wuxi would be biased. In recent years, Wuxi's smart city construction has been advancing rapidly. In 2019, which is July of this year, Wuxi Power Supply Company completed the upgrade and renovation of a cable tunnel built in 2014. The renovated cable tunnel has become a lean operation and inspection project with intelligent perception, intelligent center, and intelligent panoramic function. The cable tunnel has achieved "self perception" and "self operation inspection", significantly improving the level of healthy operation of the line.

On September 3, 2019, the successfully transformed smart cable tunnel was used for safety simulation drills. This 3.55km long cable tunnel located in the core area of the Taihu Lake New City completed the automatic trip of the line, the system automatically locked the fault point, and visualized in the 3D model. Patrol robots, fire robots went to the fault point to eliminate the fault, and other safety simulation drills.
In order to build and upgrade this smart tunnel, more than 400 sensor points of 18 types are shared, and the humidity, temperature, water level, and cable current and voltage inside the tunnel are monitored in real-time throughout the entire process. The installed sensors can also sense the chips on the workers inside the tunnel, allowing for real-time detection of their vital signs, violations, and other behaviors.

All the information collected by the smart cable tunnel will be transmitted to the monitoring platform in the first time, and in the event of an emergency, the smart monitoring platform can also automatically take response measures.
This smart cable tunnel utilizes a large amount of Internet of Things technology to integrate real facilities with network information, replacing manual labor through mechanization, informatization, and networking.
At present, smart cable tunnels have been constructed in Xiong'an New Area, Shaanxi Province, and Gansu Province in China, achieving comprehensive monitoring of the status of various facilities and equipment inside the tunnel, preventing equipment failures and hidden dangers, improving tunnel management efficiency, and helping to ensure the safety of social facilities and property.
With the continuous development of smart cities, the application of smart cable tunnels will also become increasingly widespread. At present, smart cable tunnels have functions such as smart monitoring and collection systems, smart auxiliary control and joint control systems, and smart data decision-making systems. In the next step, with the continuous development of big data technology, the management of cable pipelines in the future will become more intelligent, and the functions will become more diverse, improving the level of smart management in the entire city. As a domestic cable production unit, Henan Shenghua Cable also needs to improve its technological innovation and contribute to the construction of a future smart city as the future smart city approaches.
