Cables have been widely used nowadays, but there are requirements for the transportation, installation, and storage of cables, as many factors can cause damage to the cables, thereby reducing their service life. Among them, cable moisture is a common problem, as it can reduce the insulation resistance of the cables and cause problems when they are damp or flooded.

So what are the causes of cable moisture?
1. After using the cable for a period of time, the remaining cables are directly placed outdoors without proper sealing. If the environment is humid, water vapor may enter the cable.
2. The plastic packaging is not tight enough, and there are damages and gaps in the packaging. These types of cables are often affected by water vapor
3. Improper operation by employees, resulting in cable heads entering water vapor
4. The insulation of the cable is severely damaged, causing water ingress into the cable
5. The cables stored in the warehouse for a long time may be affected by the moisture on the ground side of the cables next to the ground
So once it is found that the cable has entered the water, how should we deal with it?
Relying on existing technological means, it is difficult to remedy water ingress in cables. Therefore, in practical life, if water ingress is found in cables, the common method is to saw off the cable several meters from the front end and check if it is dry. If water is still found, it needs to be sawn again until it is completely dry. If the entire cable is flooded, it basically declares the end of the cable.
So it can be seen that once the cable gets wet, it is basically impossible to save it with existing technology. Therefore, the importance of prevention is greater than repair for the problem of cable moisture and water ingress.

How to prevent cables from getting damp and water ingress?
1. Thickened insulation layer to prevent damage and water ingress
2. Choose better insulation materials, as impurities and pores in the insulation can cause water vapor to enter
3. Ensure good sealing of cable heads
4. Strengthen the technical literacy of staff to avoid water ingress caused by installation errors
5. Store the remaining cables in a relatively dry enclosed warehouse to avoid direct contact with the ground
